DStv prices set to increase in April

DStv package is likely to increase by the start of April. MultiChoice have revealed they will be freezing the price for DStv Premium, but other “boquets” will be at the mercy of a hike.

There is at least a silver lining for those worried about the latest price increase: Any future fee will be below the rate of inflation, but the conglomerate is yet to settle on a definitive price.

MultiChoice to go live on the stock market

That means that the proposed hikes will be minimal. It comes at a time where the MultiChoice group have to be incredibly careful not to upset the applecart, as they prepare to list on the JSE by Wednesday 27 February.

The move is expected to help the company provide more quality content to its base, as well. By floating the shares on the JSE, an increase in net worth will allow MultiChoice to spend more money on quality programming and it gives them space to further enhance their streaming services.

The current rate of inflation sits near the 5% mark. We’re going to look at the complete price range for what you could end up paying later in the year, depending on the DStv package you have installed at home:

What will I pay for DStv Access, EasyView and Premium?

Meanwhile, the maximum a DSTV Access customer can expect their monthly bill to rise to is R103.95, as it currently costs R99. Those on the EasyView subscription would barely notice a change, as the R29 package would increase to a maximum of R30.45.

The price of DStv Premium has been frozen for the year ahead, as the network attempts to prevent customers from jumping ship to streaming services like Netflix. Subscribers won’t have to pay a cent more for their channels, and the R809 monthly free has been locked in until 2020 at the earliest. That excludes the complimentary access fee of R90.
