Testicular Cancer Awareness

There are many different references to Testicular Cancer Awareness Month found online. However, we recognize April as Testicular Cancer Awareness Month as it is in concert with the long recognized Testicular Cancer Awareness Week, which starts on April 1st. We feel that following in the April tradition but extending the week to a Testicular Cancer Awareness Month will allow more individuals, organizations and media representatives to come together and make a difference for testicular cancer awareness and education.

We also believe that emphasis on testicular cancer during a particular month is a good start but that awareness really needs to continue throughout the year. There are easy ways to raise awareness for testicular cancer that you can do throughout the year and we hope you will join us in doing some easy things to make a huge difference.

Testicular Cancer Awareness Ribbon Color

The Testicular Cancer Society recognizes royal blue as our official testicular cancer awareness color.

There has been much debate about the color for testicular cancer awareness and ribbons. Orchid, a purple/violet color, has long been recognized as the official color for testicular cancer. We believe that this originated as orchid is a derivative of orchis, the ancient Greek word for testicle, and this has been supported by the Orchid male cancer awareness organization in the UK.

There have also been references to yellow, which appears to be in relation to Lance Armstrong’s testicular cancer diagnosis and formation of the former Lance Armstrong Foundation. However, the now named, LIVESTRONG Foundation, represents all cancers and not just testicular cancer.

We feel that royal blue serves a new alternative to the traditional orchid color for testicular cancer awareness and may be a bit more masculine than the purplish orchid color. After all, pink is synonymous with women and breast cancer so why not use royal blue for men and testicular cancer.

However, we certainly believe that any color that you choose to use is acceptable as long as you are raising awareness for testicular cancer. After all, a color is just a color but awareness saves men’s lives.
